I picked up my new glasses. It is AMAZING how clear my new vision is…especially in my first ever pair of subscription sun glasses.
I love being able to see while driving.
Driving home, marvelling at how clear all the signs along the highway were, I reflected upon how their un-clearness should have been a motivator to update my prescription…..except that I didn’t know they were unclear.
It was headaches that drove me back to the optometrist rather than blurry signs. The headaches were uncomfortable and making it hard to live my life – they were interfering in my day-to-day life.
Sometimes we need a push to make us realise that we need new vision.
Personal development is like that too. Sometimes we need a sign that makes us uncomfortable and that interferes in our otherwise plain sailing day.
We don’t know what we don’t know…..until we know that we don’t know .
I didn’t know that I didn’t know about social justice; different therapeutic frameworks; personal practice models, etc, until I stated a degree in Social Work. I didn’t know that I knew nothing past theory until I graduated and started to learn how it all worked in the real world.
Even though I had post-graduate training, 22 years of experience in working therapeutically with people and coaching them through personal development and had been published across different genres, I didn’t really know that the missing link from self-help books (pop psychology) was the application and ongoing mentor-ship in that application.
I feel embarrassed to admit that and I wish I had my years of being a therapist back again. I would do it differently. I would today recommend people go onto a monthly subscription of self-help so that they got an ongoing package of guided reading and listening along with face to face association with other people doing exactly the same thing.
But, I didn’t know that I didn’t know how to best support people where they were at and in their own time frames.
Now I do because I developed new vision through ongoing study of LIFE Leadership’s guided reading and listening programs.
Do you need a new vision so that you can find out what you may not already know?
