Edit, 3.3.13: We are now collecting only plastic food packets (chip/lolly packets, etc) to weave into gorgeous fashion hand bags.
We want your waste, left overs and off cuts from commercial industries, offices and households. Post consumer waste (stuff left over from home, like milk bottles) is our most common and most used.
Our customers (early childhood and artists) like the unusual and things that they cannot easily get or don’t have the time to clean/process.
Below is a non exhaustive collection list, just know that whatever you’ve got, as long as it’s not toxic, we will use somehow.
If a woman or young person (teenager) can carry it on their own – we want it.
At The Junk Wave in Cairns, we accept:
- aluminium cans
- old CDs
- wine wires
- old cards
- chocolate/lolly wrappers
- off cuts and over runs, containers,
- nets (including onion bags)
- vinyl, material
- office plastics (LOVE webbing that comes around boxes)
- plastic lunch containers
- old pens
- plastic straws
- key boards, small e-waste, etc
- plastic lids
- plastic bottles (Megan is CRAZY for plastic milk bottles!),
- plastic cutlery
- miscellaneous items
If in doubt, put it in your recycling box and we’ll make the decision to use it or recycle it elsewhere.
We don’t do toxins or poisons. This includes treated timber (like pallets for example). We don’t do glass or paper/cardboard because the council does a great job at recycling them.
Thank you for not adding your waste to landfill. Making junk valuable is our future.
