In business, the three pillars of sustainability are commonly called a 3 P business model - People, Planet and Profit.
Many old style businesses have a single bottom line where their business success is measured against how much money they made (cash is King). In the past, this has caused many an argument in our home. My husband is an accountant, schooled in the old way of thinking where money was the measurement of everything.
However, a sustainable business model looks at a triple bottom line: is our business successful for people, is our business successful for the environment and does our business create some profit to allow us to do the things we have to do. Make no mistake, a sustainable business can still make a lot of money - a truck load of money in fact - but it is how that money is used that is important.
Is the profit used in a sustainable manner?
The Junk Wave is a sustainable business working to a sustainable business model.
I also have another business in Leadership and Personal Development and it celebrates all three pillars of the environment too. I work from home in Australia, collectively with a group of people in different parts of Australia, the USA and Canada, focused on changing our communities and changing lives. We have fun, make money and make a difference. We talk about life being divided into eight different categories that all start with F: Finances, Fitness, Fun, Freedom, Following, Family, Friends and Faith. My speciality areas are Fitness (environmental fitness) and Fun (YEEHAWW!) but I am working on creating balance across the other areas.
Can you see how the eight categories of life take in a 3P Business model (People, Planet, Profit)?
If you would like to partner with me in a sustainable business where we have fun, make money and make a difference, contact me and I'll tell you more about it. We're expanding and we'd love to have you along if you are a person of ALTHitude (ambitious, looking, teachable and honest).
