Here’s some ideas for making recycled bunting and party chains: all from material you have in your kitchen rubbish bin.
Check what you have available: I had a stock of rings from bottle necks and plastic lids. I also had straws from all sorts of places (can’t half pick the McDonald’s ones) and milk bottle handles (perfect for threading)…and a container of wine wires just perfect for making little split rings for joining.
To make a hole in the plastic lids, push a thumb tack through before you thread it with a needle and cotton.
It’s all about the pattern and the colour combination: go crazy – plastic lids and straws are so naturally colourful that they make fantastic bunting.
Plastic rings from the necks of milk and drink bottles make wonderfully colourful chains. I made little split rings from wine wire to join them.
Responsible partying is about safe drinking levels AND environmentally protective decorations. Recycling is in. I would LOVE to see what you make from your kitchen waste so be sure to post your recycled craft pics to Megan Bayliss is The Junk Wave’s facebook page.
