Did you know that bra cups make for great stuffed animal ears?
Tits true! My pictures are the proof.
Artist Ruby Boussard threw me a challenge: to enter a recycled bra for the Beautiful Bras for Breast Cancer fund-raiser. How exciting...the other invitees are all artists and have created works of arts.
I'm not an artist. I'm a recycled craftist. But, I'm very honoured to offer a bra along side all of those super sexy art pieces by those super talented female artists.
My mind immediately went to basket weaving: a brasket. But, as I rummaged through the jumble bag for old bras and fought with my playful kitty to reclaim my boobie prizes, I figured I could probably go a little more creative than just a brasket. My cat was so interested in the lacy-strappy-things in the bag, I decided to craft cat toys out of bras.
I made a funny round play cat from a swim top with built-in bra: I cut the cups out and, after gathering swim top and bottom, and stuffing it, I re-positioned the bra cups as cat ears. A bra strap is the cat's tail and bra clasps are facial features.
I made a stuffed ball from four lace bra cups, blanket stitched together: a brall. In the middle of the stuffing, I placed four beer bottle tops in a plastic holder. The brall makes rattly noises when rolled along the floor. I like it. My cat LOVES it.
I wound bra straps into a smaller hanging ball - to hang from a brasket handle so pussy can swipe it. For pussy's extra pleasure, I finished the bra strap ball with a bra tassel.
I made a brasket from the bra left overs, some lacy knickers and petticoats.
Place them all together and I'm talking about the strength of women who live with breast cancer: Pussy in a brasket: she's got balls!
I'm also talking about recycling as a life saver.
I've also created a recycled cat playground - let the cat claw and bite that and not my hand in the jumble bag!
Submitted bras to Beautiful Bras for Breast Cancer Exhibition are at Festival Cairns HQ, 105 Lake Street, from Monday 26th September until Friday 21st October where they will then be auctioned off at the Pink Ribbon High Tea on Sunday 23rd October at the Shangri La Cairns.
Who's going to bid on this wonderfully creative cat toy: Pussy in a brasket: she's got balls. It's for breast cancer fund raising...and because we have two breasts we need bid increments in double figures please.
