Holloways Beach (Cairns) clean up by Megan Bayliss of The Junk Wave

by Megan Bayliss | July 22, 2012 1:31 pm

[1]Megan Bayliss of The Junk Wave makes good use of plastics dropped on and washed up onto the beach. Better still, she teaches how to re-use the items in craft and fashion. Her next recycled craft workshop[2] is about making bangles (see the pic below) out of all those horrible plastic bottles that end up on beaches the world over.

Are you aware that plastic in the salt water (the ocean) increases in toxicity and that every piece of plastic ever made is still in existence (and much of it in our oceans and on our beaches)? Did you know that plastic lids of drink bottles have fast eclipsed cigarette butts on the worlds beaches[3]? YUK (to both cigarette butts AND plastics on beaches)!

Watch Megan's short video made after a beach clean-up on Holloways Beach, Cairns.

Come to one of The Junk Wave's amazing workshops[4]: laughter is mandatory and the environmental learning is the bonus. Here's a few bangles Megan Bayliss made from beached bottles and scraps of whatever else she saved from landfill and ocean.

Learn how to make these at Megan's workshop in Cairns on Saturday 28th July. $20.00. Suitable for children 8+ accompanied by an adult. 10 only spots. Other workshops (plastic weaving) booked for Sydney on the 10th and 11th of September 2012[6].
