Four Corner’s exposed the torture that some Australian live Breed exports endure at point of death: A Bloody Business (If you choose to watch the documentary please be advised that some scenes are graphic and distressing).
Some Indonesian abattoirs ignore the trained and controlled measures of slaughter in favor of torture and minutes of painful death.
Graphic images of animal torture, fear (one beast was visibly trembling as it watched cattle around him tortured and butchered) and slow deaths have greatly affected me.
I am affected by sadness and motivated by protection. The way those animals died was uncalled for and very disturbing.
As a result, I now engage a domestic boycott against the Australian meat industry. I will not purchase any meat until the appalling state of live export animal cruelty is addressed and corrected.
LiveCorp and Senator Joe Ludwig: I expect to see NO animal cruelty of Australian live export beef before I will support the domestic Australian meat industry again.
Bloody Hell. I’m turning vegetarian until you sort this mess out! If we pride ourselves on an industry like this then we are a nation of cognitive dissonants with poor disregard for rights. But then, I guess our history already suggests that we eat the animal on our coat of arms and disregard the human rights of boat people. If the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour then it looks like I’ll be vegetarian for some time to come.
