My daughter encouraged me to try some friendship bracelets from plarn (plastic bag yarn). I am very happy with the results.
Using used grey and blue plastic bags, I tried several different knot patterns and added plarn covered plastic drink bottle neck rings.
Plarn is soft, not scratchy at all. Waterproof, you can wear it in the bath, swimming and it won’t get damaged in the rain. Very cool and sustainable.
“How to” recycled friendship bracelet packs are about to go on sale for $5.00 each (make two friendship bangles from one pack). The pack has two knot patterns and enough recycled plastic bag plarn to make a bracelet for yourself and a bracelet for a friend (or Mum). Contact me to find out how to buy them.
And now for some education on Friendship Bracelets:
The origin of Friendship Bracelets
Originally, these colorful bands were invented by Indians in Central and South America. According to tradition, you tie a bracelet onto the wrist of a friend who may wish for something at that moment. The bracelet should be worn until it is totally worn-out and falls off by itself, at which moment the wish is supposed to come true. Friendship-Bracelets.net
Here’s a recycled fairy wand pattern for you to cast your wish. ALWAYS remember to pick the fallen friendship bracelet up and recycle it correctly once you have made your wish. Plarn is plastic and plastic kills our fish and birds and never, ever totally degrades. Recycle, recycle, recycle is the best thing for plastics.
Happy wishing, cherubs. Mxxxx
