This home-made glue recipe is terrific: really strong.
It is also plastic free. That’s good!
Book binding strength, I use it as a paper craft glue. It’s waterproof too so you can use it to seal craft projects…like these coiled paper bowls.
You need just four ingredients: vinegar, gelatine, glycerine and water.
Work quickly with your stirring and have a paint brush on hand to apply the glue to your products.
If there is any left over, store it in an air tight container (glass jar) and re-warm it to re-use. Pictures follow.

On the stove, add the gelatine to the boiling water: stir, stir, stir and then add the glycerine and stir some more.
Store the left over glue in an air tight container. The recipe doesn’t make much. Double it if you need to. Store excess and re-heat when you need it.
Go on: make your own strong glue at home and do your bit to save the planet from a build up of plastics and chemicals.
Here’s a recipe for Air Dried Porcelain that you can also use the vinegar and glycerine in. You know that you can use vinegar as a softener in your washing machine, right? It is an antiseptic (for your skin) and disinfectant (for benches/floors), too. I buy a bottle of vinegar each shopping day – it is a wonder product for the environment.

Someone on our facebook page asked whether this home made glue actually sticks.
It sure does.
Pretending I was in front of a pre-school collage trolley, I stuck a selection of recyclables to paper: material, aluminium, plastic, wood, etc. They all stuck….even when I tried to flick them off and held my masterpiece upside down by one of the stuck on recyclables!
More interestingly though: I told my daughter about the cheap and easy home made glue – how it solidifies then has to be reheated to be re-used.
“That’s good,” she said. “I am sick of wasting glue.”
Uh-huh…..is this home made glue the next family golden budget item?
This glue rocks! Just remember that waterproof does not mean heat resistant. This glue can be immersed in cold water but heat (hot water) melts it again.
